Horseback Riding
[Photo: horseback riding] Horseback riding tours offer some of the best panoramic views of Maui - from dramatic sea cliffs to rolling, lush green pastures. All tours are guided and you'll learn about the area you are riding in as well as a little of the history of Maui - all from the saddle of a healthy, trained horse. These tours aren't just "trail rides", you can actually ride the horse, which is a lot of fun! Most tours offer beverages and snacks and some offer full lunches. Be sure to wear long pants, closed-toe shoes and sunscreen. Don't forget your camera... horseback riding tours make for great photo opportunities.

Ironwood Ranch

Just the facts...: Takes 6 riders per guide on daily rides (28 horses maximum). Departure times vary.
IRONWOOD RANCH is located in a remote area of Northwest Maui on private farmlands. All excursions include round trip transportation from the West side area with orientation breifing enroute to Ranch.
Choose from four exciting rides:
RIDES RECOMMENDED FOR ALL LEVELS
WEST MAUI JOURNEY: A scenic easy-going ride. Total Excursion Time: 3 hours Time on horseback: 1.5 hours.
HAWAIIAN EXCURSION: Ride through a pineapple plantation and into the scenic West Maui Mountains. Total Excursion Time: 3.5 hours Time on horseback: 2 hours.
SUNSET RIDE: Riders will enjoy a spectacular Maui sunset from horseback. Total Excursion Time: 3.5 hours Time on horseback: 2 hours.
RIDES RECOMMENDED FOR INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED RIDERS
PICNIC IN PARADISE: Riders will picnic in one of Maui's most remote and picturesque settings. Includes lunch. Total Excursion Time: 4.5 hours Time on horseback: 2 hours.
Weight Restrictions: 220 lbs (200 lbs on Intermediate/Advanced Rides)
Age Limit: 8 years or older - must be 4 feet tall.

HAWAIIAN EXCURSION: $100.00 per person

Mendes Ranch

Just the facts...
Mendes Ranch, Kahakuloa takes 6 to10 Riders, Daily (except Sunday).
Ride times: Morning ride - 8:00AM Afternoon Ride - 1:00PM
Three exciting rides to choose from:
PANIOLO HORSEBACK ADVENTURE: A family owned and operated business, Mendes Ranch was homesteaded in the 1940's by Manuel Mendes. Today, Allan Mendes, Manuel's grandson, runs the 3,000 acre ranch. The trail ride offered on this actual working ranch is an awesome journey through rolling pastures, lush rainforests and views of some of Maui's largest waterfalls. Riders will see Hawaiian taro patches, and travel down along Waihe'e Valley to the Pacific Ocean. With the majestic seascape as a background, it's the perfect photo opportunity. Trail ride includes a Paniolo style barbecue lunch with Ranch Ribs, country -style beans, salad, all beverages and more.
HORSEBACK TRAIL RIDE: Riders will enjoy a two hour trail ride that features views of the West Maui Mountains complete with waterfalls as well as a ride along the shoreline. After the ride, cold beverages will be served.
HELICOPTER TOUR AND PANIOLO HORSEBACK ADVENTURE: Riders enjoy the Paniolo Horseback Adventure, a 25 - 30 minute flight with Sunshine Helicopter Tours through the West Maui Mountains (free video of your flight included), and a Paniolo style barbecue lunch at Mendes Ranch.

Ohe'o Stables

Just the facts...
Oheo Stables takes up to 6 riders per tour, daily.
Located 25 minutes past Hana on County Road NO. 31 in Kipahulu.
Ride times: 10:30AM and 11:30AM (Be on time)
Two exciting rides to choose from:
Ohe'o Stables, offers two rides daily through the Kipahulu District of Haleakala National Park. Riders will enjoy the untouched beauty and panoramic views of Haleakala National Park while riding healthy, well-kept horses. Brunch is served at the Ohe'o Stables Ranch House on the sun deck overlooking beautfiul Koukouai Stream.
10:30 AM RIDE: A four hour tour that includes brunch, snacks, and juices. Time on horseback: 2.5 hours
11:30 AM RIDE: A five hour tour that includes brunch and lunch of fresh-made sandwiches, chips, snacks and juice. Time on horseback: 2.75 hours
Children under 12 need to be approved by Trail Boss.
Weight restriction: 225 lbs.
Required: Long pants, closed-toe shoes and sun protection.

Thompson Ranch

Just the facts...
Thompson Ranch takes 6 Riders per tour on daily rides.
Ride times: 10:00AM and 12:00 Noon
Located by Kula on Thompson Road.
Two rides to choose from.
Established in 1902, Thompson Ranch is an experience the whole family can enjoy. Ride through Eucalyptus forests and sparkling green pastures as the West Maui Mountains rise in the distance. The Ranch and Riding stables sit 3700 feet above the Pacific Ocean, on the slopes of Haleakala, the world's largest dormant volcano. The views are great and so is the horseback riding. Thompson Ranch will supply everything that you and your family will need to have a fun filled Horseback Riding Adventure. Beverages and snacks are served on all rides.
