The Island of Molokai
Molokai, the Friendly Isle, is best known for it's 2,000 ft. magnificent sea cliffs and Kaulapapa, the Hansen's disease settlement established by Father Damien, a Belgian priest, a hundred years ago. With only about 5,000 residents, Molokai's largest town, Kaunakakai, is a charming place to visit and like stepping back in time to an earlier Hawaii. Cattle Ranching and other agricultural alternatives are the wave of Molokai's future now. Still, Molokai remains a very spiritual and special island to visit.
The island offers great diving but due to currents and large surf, most charters from Maui can only access Molokai during the summer when conditions calm down. If you do happen to be on the boat on that perfect day, you can expect anything from hammerhead sharks to manta rays and dolphins!
